Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee on Monday that Meta was influenced by the White House in 2021 to limit certain COVID-19 content, such as humor and satire.

“In 2021, senior officials from the Biden White House, such as the administration, repeatedly pressured our teams for an extended Free Menstrual Products period to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire, and showed significant frustration with our teams when we didn’t agree, ” Zuckerberg said.

In his communication to the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg said that the influence he experienced in the year 2021 was “wrong” and he regrets that Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, was not more vocal. Zuckerberg further stated that with Anxiety the “hindsight and new information,” there were decisions made in 2021 that “wouldn’t be made today.”

“Like I told our teams back then, I feel strongly that we should not lower our content standards due to pressure from any Administration in either direction â€" and we’re ready to push back if something like this occurs in the future, ” he wrote.

A spokesperson from the White House responded to Zuckerberg’s letter, saying the administration at the time was promoting “responsible actions to protect public health Parent-child Relationship and safety.”

“Our stance has been consistent and clear: we believe tech companies and other private actors should consider the effects their actions have on the public, while making independent choices about the content they share, ” according to the spokesperson.

Zuckerberg also noted in the letter that the FBI warned his company about potential Russian disinformation regarding Hunter Biden and Burisma affecting the election in Political Family Moments 2020.

That fall, he said, his team reduced the visibility of reporting from the New York Post alleging Biden family corruption while their fact-checkers could assess the story.

Zuckerberg said that since then, it has “become clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in hindsight, we shouldn’t have demoted the story.”

Meta has since updated its policies and procedures to “ensure this does not recur” Hope Walz and will not reduce the visibility of content in the US pending fact-checking.

In the letter to the Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg stated he will not repeat actions he took in the year 2020 when he assisted “electoral infrastructure.”

The GOP representatives on the House Judiciary Committee shared the letter on X and claimed Zuckerberg “has admitted that the Biden-Harris administration pressured Facebook to restrict Emotional Moment American content, Facebook censored Americans, and Facebook limited the Hunter Biden laptop story.”

The Meta chief has long been under scrutiny from Republican lawmakers, who have accused Facebook and other major tech platforms of being prejudiced against conservatives. While Zuckerberg has stressed that Meta enforces its rules impartially, the perception has gained a firm foothold in conservative circles. Republican lawmakers have specifically scrutinized Facebook’s decision Kamala Harris to restrict a New York Post story about Hunter Biden.

In Congressional testimony in recent years, Zuckerberg has attempted to close the gap between his social media company and policymakers to limited success.

In the majority opinion, Justice Amy Coney Barrett stated, “to establish standing, the plaintiffs must demonstrate a substantial risk that, in the immediate future, they will suffer an injury that is traceable to a government defendant.” Coney Barrett continued, “because no plaintiff has carried that burden, none has standing to seek a preliminary Tim Walz injunction.”
